The Quieter Schools Programme is an offer to schools, and community buildings, in eligible areas to improve noise insulation and ventilation.
The Quieter Schools Programme is inclusive of schools that have benefitted from previous initiatives with Heathrow. The aim is to avoid schools opening windows on a regular basis and being more susceptible to aircraft noise.
Proposed solutions will vary and be determined by the specific needs of each school. These measures will include installation of screening on windows, air conditioning and mechanical ventilation systems. Maximising the benefits of the acoustic glazing, helping to keep the noise out of classrooms.
For schools eligible within a current (or future) area, Heathrow will appoint a surveyor to arrange a visit and undertake an assessment of the measures that could be put in place to benefit noise insulation and/or ventilation. A programme of work would then be agreed with the school and installation would be up to 100% funded by Heathrow, under the QNS scheme.
