ULEZ: Travelling to Heathrow Airport

Heathrow is part of London’s ULEZ. There could be extra costs associated with getting to the airport. Find out what they are here.

Heathrow is in ULEZ

London's Ultra Low Emission Zone, or ULEZ, expanded in 2023 to include Heathrow.

The Transport for London (TfL) initiative aims to reduce air pollution in London.

From 29 August 2023, Heathrow, including all Terminals (2, 3, 4 & 5), became part of this zone.

To avoid paying the daily charge, vehicles must meet emissions standards.

What is the daily charge for entering ULEZ?

The daily charge for non-compliant vehicles is £12.50. This includes cars, vans, and motorcycles. The charge is separate to other fees or charges associated with entering Heathrow.

The daily charge applies only when a vehicle is driven within the zone. It does not apply when it remains stationary.

Our map (below) highlights the boundaries of the zone, Heathrow, and the M25 and M4 relative to the zone.

Will I be charged the daily ULEZ charge for parking at Heathrow?

The daily charge for entering the ULEZ only applies when a vehicle is driven within the zone. It does not apply to when a vehicle is parked at Heathrow.

You only need to make a payment for the days when you arrive in the car park in a non-compliant vehicle. This applies to Terminal Parking, Park & Ride, Priority Park & Ride or Terminal 5 Pod Parking.

For Meet & Greet and Valet Parking customers, charges apply when arriving or leaving. They could also apply when vehicles move between storage sites and terminals.

How do I check if my vehicle meets the ULEZ standards?

Check whether your vehicle is ULEZ-compliant using TfL's vehicle checker.

How do I pay the ULEZ charge?

Visit TfL’s paying the ULEZ charge page to find full details of how to pay. You may be issued a Penalty Charge (PC) for failure to pay within the required timeframe.

How can I check if I live, work or drive through the zone?

Use TfL's postcode checker to see if you live or will drive in the expanded zone.

Heathrow became part of the expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) on 29 August 2023. This was when the initiative expanded to encompass all of London's boroughs.

Compliant vehicles can still drive in the zone without charge.

The daily charge for non-compliant vehicles is £12.50. This includes non-compliant cars, vans, and motorcycles.

The charge is separate to other fees or charges associated with entering Heathrow.

Yes, Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 all fall within the ULEZ zone. Anyone parking, dropping off or picking up in a non-compliant vehicle will need to pay the charge.

The daily charge runs from midnight to midnight, every day of the year (except for Christmas Day). If you drive a non-compliant vehicle within the ULEZ area across two days, you will need to pay two daily charges.

If you drive within the zone, you'll have to pay by midnight on the third day following the journey. Failure to pay on time could result in you receiving a Parking Charge (PC).
